Our Facilities

Overall

Our 30 acre property is set up specifically to manage horses. With 4  x CCTV monitored foaling/ICU pens, a purpose built paneled round yard, a 30m X 55m dry work/dressage arena, a 60m X 40m square cattle work arena, more than 30 individual pens, an 800 metre jog track, scheme water, three dams, bore water, workshop, 10 stall barn with work area, sand roll, crush and wash bay ,lined/insulated lab/office, on-site staff accommodation, saddle room, silo, 2 large haysheds, feed prep area, all located 1 hr from Perth airport and only 2 minutes from central Northam. Hot Air balloons depart daily from our boundary.

Cattle Arena

This 60m x 40m solid paneled square arena is used daily in the training of horses. With a larger cattle storage pen to one side and loading out facilities on the other, cattle are taught to look for gates and become settled very quickly. We believe cattle should be handled quietly and gently, with a minimum of stress. Constant access to ad-lib hay and clean water troughs means hired cattle always leave us fatter, happier and better educated.

Crush

Our purpose built crush is used to safely restrain horses for a variety of procedures. From freeze branding to dentistry to veterinary exams, this crush is horse, people and vet friendly. With (coming soon- warm water!) running water, good lighting and enclosed in an airconditioned barn, all procedures and treatments can be performed in comfort. A (removable) foal crush will be added alongside the main crush before this breeding season.

Round Yard

The round yard is very much a focal point for us.All of the mare teasing, foal handling, yearling education and young horse starting takes place here. Its generous size, blended-sand footing and rubber lining make it a safe and comfortable area to work in. Newly planted trees will provide more shade in the future.

Recipient Herd

At most times of the year, we have mares suitable for use in Embryo Transfer programs, as recipients. These mares are quiet, reproductively sound and can be easily synchronized with the donor mare, even when she is at a vet or stud breeding centre. Contact us for more information. We will be accepting mares into the recipient herd again in late August.

If you have an unwanted quiet mare, under 10yo and over 14.2hh, we can offer a good long term home.

Foaling/ICU Pens

After many years of foaling we have found this design and construction to work best for the intensive management and supervision of foaling mares and neonatal foal care. The shadecloth construction minimises risks associated with foals and wire fencing. During the non-foaling season the pens will be used for colic monitoring and wound management. A CCTV system with portable monitor allows constant supervision.

Paddocks

All visiting horses are housed individually in paddocks or pens. Our fencing is all electric tape, both broad and braided type, providing greater visibility and most importantly safety. Powered by a Gallagher energizer, we have found that once a horse is familiar with electric tape fencing, there is very rarely actual contact with the fence and therefore minimal chance of injury. Visiting stallions are housed in solid yards and exercised daily. Our own mares are isolated from all visiting horses and enjoy a large paddock with trees and dams.
